Music magazine interview.
1.
As we both know, after your major career breakthrough in
2010, you disappeared for a while. Now that your back, your even bigger! What
do you see for yourself in the future?
ANSWER: To be honest , every time I look back at what I've done with
my life , I think “I didn't see this coming”. So when I think about my future ,
all I can think is “Something’s coming and I can’t even see what it is”. but I
know for sure I have a lot more to give to the world and my career in the music
industry has only shared a sand grain compared to what’s coming.
2.
Speaking of your
disappearance from the music industry, what did you get up to in your four year
break?
ANSWER: I was going through a lot in my life at the time. I had
started to lose relationships that were very important to me and I realised
that fame had gotten to my head. So I paused my career in order to get my
priorities straight and re-connect with people in my life that I needed. Now I
have come back stronger than ever and have more support from my loved ones than
I could possibly ask for.
3.
What or who inspired your recent track?
It was actually inspired by someone I had been taking for granted
when fame was getting to my head. As I mentioned earlier, my priorities weren't straight and the person who inspired this track helped me a lot throughout my
career break. There were times where I had no one and didn't know who I was any more but somehow this special someone always managed to get me on my feet
without the slightest bit of judgement coming from her side. She’s an
incredible person and I can’t think of anyone else who I would rather dedicate
this track to.
4.
Are there more feelings than most for this special
someone?
ANSWER: Yes, definitely. For the first time in a very long time she
managed to make me see the positive things ahead of me and when I imagined
those positive things happening, she was always right there next to me. And I
plan on seeing her in my future until I no longer have a future.
5.
There are lots of rumours going around. What
collaborations are you considering?
Answer: At the moment there are three, one of which must
unfortunately remain a secret until the release date. But the other two artists
are both female and very successful. Florence Welch is one and then also the
wonderful Santi Gold. I'm actually very excited! They’re both extremely
talented people and I've never had as much fun in a recording studio as I did with Florence. It’s almost as if her emotional connection with the music runs
through you as she produces these amazing vocals. It’s truly been an amazing
experience.
6.
To help all the upcoming superstars who are reading this
interview, what keeps you going when you feel like giving up?
ANSWER: well definitely my special person (chuckle). But for those of
you who don’t have a special person, it’s definitely the end result. When I
feel like a track is going nowhere , I tend to listen to my older records which
make me think of the fact that I felt like giving up on them all but sticking
in their helped me achieve the amazing career the finally products helped me to
get.
7.
What would you say is the most valuable lesson the music
industry has taught you?
ANSWER: To not believe everything the press say. Of course interviews
are different which is why I agreed to this one, because it’s direct quotes.
But articles in gossip magazines and newspapers twist a story around like tornadoes are the latest fashion. You never know how bad it is until you experience it
first hand, which is why I don’t even read the press any more. Of course I stay
up to date with the news but as soon as a celebrity’s lifestyle is involved, I
lose interest. I take nothing they say about me seriously and the sooner you
learn to do that the better.
8.
People tend to have a rebellious perception of the fame
life. How do you feel about this?
ANSWER: I think it depends on what you do with your life. I'm not
going to lie, there are many celebrities who choose to live life like they show
it on the movies. There are also many , like me , who enjoy the money in a
responsible way but love the feeling of success
and love of music more than anything. But the doors to go down bad roads
are much larger when you have this life.
9.
Besides yourself of course, which artist would you say is
the easiest for you to relate to?
ANSWER: It all depends on what mood I'm in. I tend to enjoy
Macklemore when I'm in a good mood but when I get serious about life, I relate
quite easily to ‘Florence and the machine’ as well as Hozier. I actually own
all three of their latest albums. I think they've got so much talent and their
lyrics actually have meaning unlike some artists in the industry today.
